This afternoon's Division One Cup Quarter-Final between Team Bury and Cambridge University Press at Ram Meadow has been postponed due to a frozen pitch. At this moment in time it is now to be played on Wednesday 15th Feb.
Team Bury began the new year with a convincing four goal victory over bottom side Stowmarket Town. On what proved to be a difficult surface for both sides Team Bury began the brighter with a ball played by Weavers over an out of position defender for Burroughs to run on to and finish cooly past the advancing keeper. Stowmarket then reacted well by putting the visitors under pressure with Fenner having to tip an effort around the post. The second half was a different story with Team Bury regaining control of the affair, some good work down the left saw Weavers again providing the killer pass as he saw his cross put in at the near post by the prolific Burroughs. Substitutions were then made by both sides and with a positive impact for the visitors, Hitter showed some quick feet inside the box before curling a fine shot into the top corner with his left foot. Great pressing play by Wales on the right forced a mistake and the loose ball was crossed for Titlow to finish at the far post. Fenner's concentration was tested by having to save a fine drive from the edge of box as Stowmarket sought a concelation goal. Team Bury squad: Fenner, Barker, Key, Hall, Peters, Young (Titlow 60), Moody, Weavers, Edwards (Hitter 60), Taylor (Wales 35), Burroughs
West Suffolk College and Team Bury's Connor Hall made it through to the final squad of 19 to represent the England Colleges Football Association against international oppoistion such as Wales, and tour Italy to face the likes of Romania and Slovenia youth sides in the new year. This is a huge achievement to make the final cut following gruelling trials and a three day training camp at Lilleshall National Sports Centre. Congratualtions to Connor and thoroughly deserved.
Wednesday saw the visit of Filton College from the Bristol Academy of Sport to the victory ground. Another win against strong opposition once again topped off with two goals from Burroughs saw West Suffolk College's chances of making the national play-offs this season again strengthened. WSC Squad: Hastie, Barker, Hitching, Hall, Taylor, Key, Moody, Curry, Burroughs, Titlow, Davies, Wales, Conroy.
A dramatic final 15 minutes saw Team Bury throw away a 3 goal lead at home to Fakenham Town following one of their best displays of the season. Team Bury dominated the first half with some fine footballing moves shown on an ever increasingly difficult surface. The lead was taken early on through the on-form Burroughs from inside the box. Another swift attacking move resulted in a penalty kick as another shot from Burroughs was blocked, this time with a hand. Curry was unfortunate to see his spot kick finely saved by the visiting goalkeeper. The second goal came from some good work down the left before play was switched across the pitch and into the box for Edwards to finish with some style from the knock-down. With Team Bury crusing Fakenham were sure to come out fighting in the second half. As expected the second period was a much more scrappy affair although the home side still looked dangerous on the break. Burroughs once again finished off another move to make it three and put the game to everyones belief, beyond Fakenham. Huge credit is to be given to the visitors who forced a corner on 75 minutes and headed home from an excellent delivery to pull one back. The game opened up with chances for both teams and a couple of good saves once again from the visiting goalkeeper this time from Burroughs and Davies. On 89 minutes Fakenham were awarded a free-kick outside the box, the ball was squared to an unmarked player who smashed in a great effort from 20 yards. With the game now on a knife edge nerves were beginning to show. The killer blow was struck in injury time, another free-kick into the box was not cleared correctly, and a deflected shot found its way through to the feet of a visiting player ready to pounce and steer the ball into the net from close range. To Team Bury's disbelief and dispair the game was levelled. Team Bury Squad: Fenner, Barker, Key, Weavers, Taylor, Kearns (Titlow 60), Curry, Edwards, Burroughs, Wales (Hitter 75), Young (Davies 75). Team Bury Man-of-the-match: Burroughs.
Team Bury could not follow up their victory over Long Melford after going down 3-1 away to Debenham LC on Saturday afternoon. Two headed goals from the same player from corners within the opening 20 minutes effectively settled the match. Loss of possession and a lapse in defensive concentration gifted the home side their chance to extend the lead to three which they took giving Team Bury a mountain to climb in the second half. A double substitution and a change in tactics to direct football going down the slope during the second half put the home side under considerable pressure. Burroughs pulled one back after 55 minutes but further good oportunites to score were missed by many to prevent the unlikely comeback to occur. Team Bury Squad: Fenner, Barker, Key, Weavers, Hall, Kearns (Edwards 45), Curry (Young 45), Moody (Titlow 70), Hitter, Wales, Burroughs.
West Suffolk College Sports Academy U19 Boys side defeated last years league winners Hartpury College from Gloucestershire, at the Victory Ground on Wednesday afternoon. A high quality display of passing and attacking football from both sides was on display with both sides battling for midfield dominance. With a 0-0 draw looking the likely result defender Finch was put up front with 15 minutes left to try and unsettle the visitors defence. He was brought down for a penalty which was dispathed assertively by Key to give West Suffolk College their first victory over Hartpury College for some time and to greatly improve their chances of making this years national play-offs. WSC Squad: Hastie, Barker, Hitching, Hall, Taylor, Moody (Finch 75), Key, Curry, Burroughs, Wales (Gathercole 65), Davies (Bailey 65).
Team Bury bounced back from recent cup exits by defeating Long Melford at Ram Meadow on Monday night. Team Bury's pace and movement up front troubled the Melford defence all night long but were lacking the quality in the final ball and finish to top off their good play. It looked as though the visitors dogged defending was to earn them a point before Burroughs smashed home a 25yd free-kick on 85 minutes to gain the much needed 3pts for the home side. Team Bury Squad: Fenner, Barker, Finch, Weavers, Ripa, Moody, Edwards, Titlow (Curry 55), Clark, Hitter (Burroughs 60), Wales (Davies 65). Team Bury Man-of-the-match: Finch. Attendance 49.
Team Bury were dumped out the Suffolk Senior Cup going down 3-1 away to Suffolk and Ipswich League side Felixstowe United. On a very windy afternoon the visitors had the elements in their favour during the first half and capitalised by taking the lead through Burroughs endeavour by chasing down a lost cause and taking advantage of a mis clearance by the home goalkeeper. Other chances went begging as Team Bury put together some fine attacking move down both flanks. The second half saw the game being broken up on regular occassions by some dubious officiating which saw a player from both sides being removed from the field of play. The home side used the elements to their advantage with Team Bury looking to counter attack on the break. Davies missed a great chance to score for Team Bury before Felixstowe took the lead following a fine strike just before everyone was expectining the match to go into extra time. For the second saturday in succession Team Bury pushed on to desperately trying to equalise and were caught on the break with the Felixstowe side putting the tie beyond reach during injury time. Team Bury Squad: Fenner, Wales, Key, Weavers, Taylor, Titlow, Curry, Young, Davies (Barker 70), Clark, Burroughs. Subs Not-Used: Edwards, Canham.
Team Bury were knocked out of their cup second competition in three days following a 3-2 defeat to Premier Division FC Clacton on Monday night at Ram Meadow. The game began in a very open manner with some slick passing moves being put together by both sides. A couple of half chances were created with either side going close to taking the lead. FC Clactons impressive Coyle ran through the home sides midfield to open the scoring and put the visitors in the lead. The response from Team Bury was excellent as they themselves pushed FC Clacton back with the impressive Bailey dictating the tempo of the play. A ball into the Clacton penalty area was half cleared only to find Curry on hand to smash home an equaliser through a crowd of players. With the youngsters going into the break now full of confidence, they took the game to the visitors once again during the second half. With Bailey and Curry dictating their forward play, Hitter, Clark, Young and Davies were all able to able to attack the visitors back line forcing a series of corners and dangrous balls into the box. Another loose ball in the box following a corner from the right was headed down by Hitter, this time Clark made himself space to finish clinically. The home sides lead was short lived as FC Clacton attacked immediately from the restart in play. A throw-in was not defended properly and the lack of concentration was punished with Clacton drawing level. The visitors now took control of the match and won the tie with a brilliant solo run from the ever dangerous Coyle, who finished with his second goal of the evening to settle the tie. A much improved performance from the home side was not good enough on the night to beat the individual class found in the premier division's side. Much confidence can be drawn from the performance moving forward to important matches in the next few weeks. Team Bury squad: Fenner, Barker, Weavers (C), Key, Ripa, Davies (Edwards 65), Bailey (Moody 70), Curry (Titlow 70), Young, Clark, Hitter. Team Bury Man-of-the-match: Bailey. Attendance 51.
Team Bury's injury woes continued as they saw their goalkeeper, Richard Robins leave the field after 25 minutes with a disclocated finger during their 3-1 away defeat to Witham Town in the FA Vase second round on Saturday. Witham Town started the game the brighter side as the visitors looked a little nervous on the ball. The home team took the lead from a header from a corner from the right. Team Bury responded well and were able to put some good attacking moves down the right flank. The match was levelled after 20 minutes as Ryan Clark latched onto a through ball, headed the ball down and then finished calmly below the oncoming goalkeeper. With subsitute striker Hitter having to go in goal the visitor held out for the remainded of the half to allow them to reorganise at the break. Possession during the second half was dominated by Witham as they put the youngsters onto the back foot. Excellent defending by Ripa, Key, Weavers and Barker kept the home side at bay until the mid-way point in the half when a scrambeled clearance found a Witham player who blasted past the makeshift Team Bury goalkeeper from close range. Team Bury looked dangerous on the counter attack as Witham looked to entend their lead, a couple of half chances were missed by both sides before Witham finally put the tie beyond reach by scoring their third during injury time. Team Bury's furthest FA Vase run to date is over but with three of the more experienced West Suffolk College based players missing from the side through injury, victory in Essex was just a step too far this time around. Team Bury Squad: Robins (Hitter 25), Barker (Hearing 65), Key, Weavers (c), Ripa, Curry (Wales 60), Edwards, Moody, Young, Burroughs, Clark (Goal, 20 Mins).

Congratulations to both Connor Hall and Perry Moody who progressed to represent the south versus the north in a 3 day training camp at Lilleshall National Sports centre in December in a bid to make the final squad for the ECFA touring side for the new year.
An injury stricken Team Bury side returned to league action against Brightlingsea Regent at Ram Meadow. 10 minutes of a loss of composure in the second half cost the home side dearly as they conceded all 3 three goals between 57 and 67 minutes. Team Bury Squad: Robins, Barker, Key, Weavers, Ripa, Moody (Wales 55), Curry, Edwards, Hitter (Burroughs 65), Young, Clark (Taylor 65). Team Bury Man-of-the-match: Key.
Another dramatic fixture at Long Melford saw Team Bury progress to the quarter finals for a fixture at Home against Cambridge University Press on 4th February after winning 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out. Team Bury started the game very brightly and were unlucky not to take an early lead through Burroughs who mis-connected with a Young cross. The visitors dominated possession and moved the ball around well on a difficult surface. The deserved lead was taken as the pressure mounted, a deep cross was met by the unmarked Curry at the back post who headed home. Long Melford responded well and equalised within 5 minutes following a mis-clearance from defence, the ball looped over the keeper Hastie. Team Bury struggled to react positively and Long Melford were able to put Team Bury on the back foot and a deep cross into the box was not dealt with and the home side took the lead going in at half-time 2-1. The second half followed a similar pattern with Team Bury keeping possession in their own half of the field. A disputable throw was awarded to Team Bury, and following some clever play from Ryan Clark, the ball entered the Melford box, the subsequent shot was blocked but found Peters who netted the rebound. The remainder of the match was a scrappy affair with play being broken down with many stoppages. Melford dominated the Territorial advantage with the visitors looking to counter attack. A handful of chances were missed for both sides. Substitutions were made from both sides to try and win the game but to no avail. During the first half of extra time Team Bury substitute Hitter was sent-off for a second bookable offence and for the second time this season Team Bury had to defend against Melford with less than 11 players, this time successfully. Team Bury won the toss and took the first penalty in the shoot out. Both sides netted their early pens with visiting keeper Hastie unlucky not to have stopped the forth but his save was not strong enough to keep the ball out. With the score 5-4 the pressure told and the home sides final penalty taker was the unfortunate one to target and put Team Bury through. The victory did come at a cost, with Peters breaking a bone in his wrist and Hitching cracking his cheek bone. Team Bury Penalty scorers, Weavers, Moody, Young, Hall, Barker. Team Bury squad: Hastie, Barker, Hitching, Hall, Peters, Moody, Weavers, Curry (Edwards 70), Young, Clark (Hitter 65), Burroghs (Titlow 75).
